After 16 used motorcycles, I bought my first new one!

By D. R. Hutchinson(Owner), Jun. 16, 2012

After deciding to buy a smaller cruiser, I researched motorcycles with 250cc engines.

I like Hondas, but the 250s were too small for me; I was cramped on them. Their engines seemed weak, too.

I've had a couple of Kawasaki bikes and liked them, but they didn't have any smaller bikes that appe... aled to me.

I looked at at two 250cc Suzuki bikes...I liked the idea of a simple single-cylinder bike. However, a GZ250 was cramped, and had a terrible seat.

Then, I saw a TU 250, it seemed almost perfect! I especially liked the '60s era-style. I knew they had a good reputation and the economy of Suzuki 250 bikes should be good.

The TU250 was the one I was most attracted to, so far. I really loved it's nostalgic style! I had about decided to buy one.

But, then, I talked to a fellow, who was riding a Yamaha V-star 250. The style was most appealing...I was attracted to it's V-twin, body style, had the owner said his had been totally reliable!

His was three years old and had 11,000 miles on the clock. He bought it as a "Transition" bike, but was so satisfied with it, that he never traded up!

So, after more research and soul searching, I located and bought a new 2011 Yamaha 250 V-Star. So far, I am completely satisfied with it.

It has amazing torque, the fuel mileage is remarkable, and it's comfortable... even for my 6'1" height and 210lbs weight.

I've had several bikes in the 200-350 cc range, but none of them could come close to the comfort, handling, and power of this 250! None of my friends, who have ridden mine, can believe it only has a 250cc engine!

Oh yeah, on the 4th of July, I will be 72. I bought this bike for my very own birthday present!

I bought my first bike in 1953 and have had 16 of all makes. This Yamaha is my first new motorcycle; all of the other ones were used.
